Like the friendly character of the people who call Liverpool home, the city just gives off a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The famous city even has its own twang, and the phrases in the Liverpudlian or Scouse accent will just add to the hospitality of the people that we all know and love.

Visit Liverpool and find another dimension of tourism in the UK, with historical and UNESCO-listed heritage sites, culture and arts. With a unique blend of things to do, marvel at the culture and beauty of the Land of the Scousers.

Liverpool has its own airport and has good connections to neighbouring cities like Manchester, Leeds and even the capital London. If you’re taking a break, travelling around the UK, it’s easy to fit all the flavours Liverpool has to offer in.

Islamic history of Liverpool

Liverpool is well known for its prominent role in the arts and in British history, such as being a main transport link in the 1800s and even once being known as ‘The New York of Europe’. However, many people do not know the inspirational hidden gems of Islamic history concealed within the city.

Liverpool boasts the first mosque that was built in England. It may be hard to imagine the UK now without a mosque in every major city, but in 1887, the influence of Islam and Muslims was not as prominent. William Abdullah Quilliam was a lawyer from Liverpool who converted to Islam and founded the mosque in 1887. Quilliam opened 8 Brougham Terrace to the public in 1889, leaving a lasting legacy on the world. He received many honours from the Islamic world from his extensive travels, including from the Emir of Afghanistan and the 26th Ottoman Caliph who regarded him as the Sheikh of the UK. Today the building still exists and plans are ongoing to turn it into a museum. It is a source of inspiration and a reminder of how people were invited to Islam as well as how we are advocates of Islam and should be mindful of the etiquettes we should have when travelling.

Today, Liverpool’s largest mosque, Al-Rahma is a community hub for the many Muslims of Liverpool and is worth a visit for its beautiful atmosphere. A living room for the many diverse cultures that Liverpool hosts, the mosque was the third purpose-built mosque in the UK and now hosts classes for families and children.

As a port city, Liverpool is proud of its welcoming attitude. With different people coming and going since its early days as a travel link, tolerance has always been a part of the Liverpudlian culture. The city is home to notable Muslim figures who are an inspiration to many, such as the likes of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane. These footballers are loved by the Liverpudlians and Muslims alike, for their pride in being Muslim and for openly showing the good attributes of Islam, making them good role models.
