Halal-friendly holidays

With over five centuries of Muslim presence in Valencia, Islamic cultural riches and traditions are deeply rooted in Valencian culture. And thanks to a growing Muslim community from North Africa and the Middle East, there are numerous restaurants serving halal food and a number of mosques open for daily prayers.

There are many restaurants in Valencia that serve halal food with dishes from Türkiye, India, Morocco and the Middle East. Since Valencia is located on the Mediterranean, there are plenty of seafood options throughout the city. Vegetarian and vegan food is also widespread.

There are some hotels that serve halal food upon request and some hotels that are completely alcohol-free.

Old Town - Travel back in time to the most enchanting and attractive area of Valencia. With a history spanning over 2,000 years, it is home to picturesque streets lined with numerous historical monuments and fascinating museums.

Mercado Central - This huge modernist market hall was built in 1928 and is home to hundreds of stalls selling fruits and vegetables as well as foods produced locally.

City of Arts and Sciences - Located on the outskirts of Valencia on the Turia River, this cultural and architectural complex is the most important and modern tourist destination in Valencia. It consists of six large impressive buildings dedicated to artistic and scientific exhibitions.

Oceanogràfic - The largest oceanarium in Europe opened in 2003 and is integrated into the “City of Arts and Sciences” complex. The marine habitats are represented by the avant-garde architecture and the arrangement of the various aquariums. It is home to more than 45,000 marine creatures from 500 different species.

Palau de les Arts - Opened in 2005 and is also located in the City of Arts and Sciences, the opera house and cultural centre is a majestic building promoting the performing arts.

There are several mosques in Valencia. Here are some:

Grand Mosque of Valencia - This large mosque brings together the Muslim community of Valencia. Jumu’ah Khutbahs are delivered in Arabic and Spanish.

Jamia Masjid Bilal - This small Islamic centre is open for daily prayers and Jumu’ah Khutbahs in Spanish and Arabic.

Islamic League Mosque - Located near Valencia city centre, the Islamic League Mosque is also a meeting place for Spanish Muslims.

Darul Islam Centro Cultural Islámico - This cultural centre is not only a space for prayers but also hosts events such as seminars, lectures, workshops and conferences.

Mezquita Nabawi - The Mezquita Nabawi, whose name translates to “Mosque of the Prophet,” brings local Muslims together for daily prayers and Jumu’ah khutbahs in Spanish and Arabic.
