Red Sea International Airport (RSI) is the purpose-built gateway to the Red Sea Project, near Umluj on the Saudi coast. Domestic flights from Jeddah take approximately 45 minutes; from Riyadh, approximately 1 hour 15 minutes; from Madinah, approximately 1 hour. From Makkah, the practical routing is the Haramain train to Jeddah followed by a domestic flight to RSI — approximately 3–4 hours door-to-door.
Seaplane and Speedboat Transfers
Onward transfers from RSI to the island resorts are managed by individual properties via speedboat (20–45 minutes) or seaplane for more remote destinations. The seaplane arrival — low over the coral reefs, sandbanks, and island clusters — is one of the destination’s signature experiences. Transfer arrangements are confirmed at booking and typically included in the resort package.

Do I need a special permit to visit the Red Sea Project islands?
No separate permit is required for resort guests — access is managed through the booking process. The marine protected zone restricts independent private boat access; all water activities are resort-managed. Arriving by private yacht requires marina entry permissions arranged in advance.
Are the luxury resorts in the Red Sea destination fully Sharia-compliant?
It largely depends on the property. The resorts are alcohol-free, but as most operate on an international mixed-gender concept, dedicated ladies-only secluded areas at shared beaches and pools are not standard. However, some properties offer private villas with fully secluded pools and beach areas designed for halal-conscious guests. What is the best time of year to visit for ideal water temperatures?
October through May is the best visiting window — water temperatures 22–26°C, visibility highest, air temperatures comfortable for beach and desert activities. The summer months bring water above 30°C and extreme air temperatures. November through February offers the clearest diving conditions.
Are there female-only spa and beach facilities at the luxury resorts?

Maskhoutah Tunnel
Tunnel route from the eastern side of Makkah: one of the longest rides, as it starts well out from the Haram, but less exposed to traffic than the main-road routes.
Masfalah Tunnel
Short, tunnelled ride from the Masfalah side - closer in than the eastern tunnels and less exposed to street traffic than the road routes.
Kudai Tunnel
Medium-length tunnel route from the Kudai and Ajyad side: longer than the central Ajyad and Al Kidwah tunnels, but shielded from street traffic for most of the way and therefore much steadier than the road routes.
Al Khindama Road
Surface-road approach rather than a tunnel: shorter than the outer eastern routes, but far more traffic-sensitive than any tunnel route, with local access restrictions adding further variation through the day.
Jabal Omar Internal Road
Among the shortest and most consistent routes: an internal journey through the Jabal Omar complex to a Haram-facing drop-off, with no exposure to public-road traffic.
Aziziah Road
Main roads the whole way from Aziziah: the most traffic-exposed of the routes, and the most likely to run to the top of its journey-time range at prayer times.
Al Taqwa Street
Surface route from the Al Hijrah side, south of the Haram: fairly short when clear, but fully exposed to traffic and local restrictions, so the ride can take more than twice as long at busy times.
King Faisal Road
Main eastern approach from the Al Maabdah and Al Shara’i side: a longer surface-road route with no tunnel protection, so traffic and access controls can extend the ride near the Haram.
Al Masjid Al Haram Road
Main surface road along the Al Maabdah and Shaib Amir approach to the Haram: direct but traffic-exposed, and one of the road routes most likely to lengthen at peak times.
Al Taysir Road
Short surface-road route from Al Taysir and Jarwal to Jarwal Station, close to the Haram. Usually one of the quickest road approaches, though traffic and access controls can still add time at peak periods.
Ajyad Tunnel
Very short tunnel route through the Ajyad section of the First Ring Road, close to the Haram and King’s Gate. Shielded from surface traffic for most of the ride, so journey times stay very steady.
Ibrahim Al Khalil Road
Direct surface-road approach from the Masfalah side to the western edge of the Haram. It is short for the central hotels, but has no tunnel protection, so traffic and prayer-time access restrictions can affect the ride.
